About the Program:

In a program ideally suited for our times, pianist Brian Ganz joins with Sunrise String Quartet to present “Music for Friends,” featuring favorite solo and duo works composed for or requested of friends. Videos of the performers include the stories behind their selections. While the pandemic prohibits gathering in large groups, the intimacy of chamber music offers the opportunity for friends to express their feelings through music and for audiences to enjoy the program in the intimacy of their own settings.

Osman Kivrak, violist with the quartet, commented: “Chamber music is music for small groups, and I loved the idea of requesting pieces from our colleagues because some of the pieces that are programmed for this concert were actually written for close friends of the composer. So, we each picked pieces that mean something to us.”

Among the pieces to be performed are a work composed by Kivrak for violin and viola, movements from Bach suites for solo violin and solo cello, Chopin Scherzo No, 2 for solo piano, and a violin and viola duo composed by Mozart at the request of his friend Michael Haydn, brother of composer Franz Joseph Haydn.
