Brian Ganz Virtual Concert February 12
Acclaimed pianist Brian Ganz presents an all-Chopin program for UUCA on Saturday, February 12, at 3:00 pm via Zoom. No tickets or reservations are required.
Meeting ID: 944 7116 6106
In this highly intimate, interactive program, Brian will preview selections from the latest in his ongoing series featuring the complete works of Chopin at the Music Center at Strathmore in Bethesda, Maryland. In addition, he will discuss and demonstrate his signature “Musical Gardening” metaphor in which he shows how early works of Chopin contain the seeds of genius that come to full bloom in mature examples of the same genres, including mazurkas, polonaises, waltzes, and nocturnes. Highlights of the program include the rarely heard Polonaise in D minor, Op. 71, No. 1 as well as the great “Heroic” Polonaise; the ever-popular 2nd Scherzo and the less often heard 2nd Ballade; and some early waltzes and the beloved “Minute” Waltz.
Continuing a popular feature of his in-person Strathmore previews at UUCA, Brian will invite questions and requests from the audience. “I love the preview tradition at UUCA. It’s always an opportunity to give the audience a rich taste of the Strathmore program [scheduled for February 26, 2022], take some Chopin requests, answer questions about Chopin and his music, and enjoy a less formal and perhaps more intimate connection with the audience.”
The UUCA program on February 12 was originally scheduled as an in-person ticketed event, but due to Covid concerns will now be offered online. We encourage your donations to show appreciation for this musical program and to support the ministry of UUCA.
Brian Ganz has appeared as a soloist with such orchestras as the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, the National Philharmonic, the Baltimore and the National Symphonies, the City of London Sinfonia, and L’Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte Carlo. He has performed in many of the world’s major concert halls and has played under the baton of such conductors as Leonard Slatkin, Mstislav Rostropovich, Pinchas Zukerman, Jerzy Semkow, and Yoel Levi. A critic for La Libre Belgique wrote of his work: “We don’t have the words to speak of this fabulous musician who lives music with a generous urgency and brings his public into a state of intense joy.”
