FACILITIES MANAGER – PART TIME (10-15 hours per week, with opportunity for more hours depending on rentals) – UNITARIAN UNIVERSALIST CHURCH OF ANNAPOLIS

Position Summary/Purpose of Position

The position of Facilities Manager at the UUCA is to assist with oversight, coordination, and day-to-day operations of the church’s buildings and property and helps to ensure the congregation is a good steward of its sacred and community resources. The Sexton is responsible for maintaining a clean and safe facility; performing repairs and troubleshooting facility issues and working occasional rental events, providing set up and dismantling of furniture for events. The Church Sexton also coordinates weekly, monthly and annual maintenance of outside facility vendors and volunteers and meets with them to facilitate their work. 

Duties Include:

*coordinate maintenance items needed weekly/monthly/annual in adherence with master facilities spreadsheet (i.e. gutter cleaning/window cleaning/elevator inspection).  Coordinate all inspections/work, estimates, keeping Dir. of Adm in the loop of schedule and costs;

*Liaison with committee heads regarding any construction and coordinate needs that arise as a result;

*weekly tasks (to be performed by each Sunday) including maintaining water in sanctuary piano, emptying dehumifiers, emptying paper shredder, cleaning dumpster space to ensure pick up, checking on temperature in all spaces and adjusting, check doors for locking, windows for closure.  Weekly tasks should be performed after Sunday services and no later than Tues. during the week.

*Grounds maintenance duties to include: shoveling snow on walkways as needed and applying ice melt; removing fallen limbs and large branches into the forest as needed or for bigger jobs, contacting tree service and coordinating work

*Custodial duties to include: Ordering, shopping for and stocking facilities supplies to include toiletries, paper towels.  Keeping storage areas organized; emptying trash; general cleaning as needed after Sunday services including bathroom cleaning; emptying dishwasher as needed; keeping kitchen area tidy (putting away excess items); cleaning out refrigerators on upper and lower levels monthly; 

*General maintenance duties to include: replacing light bulbs throughout church as needed; painting (spot and room) as needed; emptying condensation trays in air conditioner units in warmer months; general repairs proactively monitoring needs. 

*Reporting weekly to Dir. of  Finance and Administration with vendor coordination, associated costs, spending on supplies; status of needs. 

*Coordinate volunteer help with large scale projects

*Be on hand for facility rentals as needed (to sometimes include Sat/Sun) ensuring Sunday securing of the building is done after services; be available for set ups for rentals to include moving chairs/sanctuary furniture (hours to be contingent upon rentals)

*Other projects/duties as assigned

Schedule:  15 hours per week. (5 flexible hours for rentals) Specific schedule to be determined with supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma (or GED equivalent); experience in project management, facilities planning/management

S/he will be self-motivated and self-directed, resourceful and conscientious, and accommodating.

Superlative skills in the following areas are necessary for success in this position:

  • organization/record keeping; administratively handling vendor files and coordination of calendar services
  • strategic planning; proactive in identifying needs
  • communication (with members of church and staff)
  • customer service

Physical Demands

The ability to walk, bend, kneel, move a heavy object (like a desk), climb ladders, etc. as well as good visual acuity will be necessary at times in order to ascertain the status of work being performed and/or the nature of a problem for which an outside vendor needs to be contracted. Must be able to communicate verbally and use a keyboard, mouse, telephone, copier, etc.
