Exploring Schedule Changes to Our Sunday Worship and Program Hour

Dear UUCA Community,

As we look ahead to the new church year we invite you to provide input into the time of our Sunday morning service. We need your help to decide the best time for our Sunday morning service and an hour of faith formation offerings for adults and children. UUCA will continue to have one hybrid service, offered in person and on Zoom. Please respond by August 22.

For many years prior to the COVID pandemic, there were two services at 9 and 11 am, with a 50-minute program hour in-between. Children and youth (like the adults) often attended both this program hour and one of the worship services on either side. This former program hour was called Middle Hour, and it was very popular and strengthened our community and our spiritual growth.

During the pandemic, we had one service and an “After Hour.” This past church year, children’s and youth programs were offered during the service, with children and youth generally attending only at the start of the service. We are interested in structuring our program in a way that would allow children, youth, and faith formation volunteers to be able to participate in both the full service and the program hour again.

We would like your input about the schedule options specifically, and we also provide an open question for broader feedback. If you are flexible about the schedule, we appreciate that and honor the realities if you do not have flexibility. Please note, moving the service to 11 am, with a 10 am program hour would conceivably allow us to add a second service at 9 am at some point in the future without an additional change; though with more than 60 people attending weekly online the value and need of adding a second service are low in the near to mid-future.

Thanks so much for helping discern wisely how best to proceed as a community.
