The ManKind Project

by James Bourne

Are you looking for a change? These words changed my life. Back in 2006, I was a father with two very young children in the house and a very strong desire to not pass on my family legacy of controlling others with anger. I was an angry man; think of white-hot rage kind of anger. Luckily, my anger never manifested physically.

I was reading a copy of the Charleston (SC) City Paper as I took a break from my studies. In the section called Events Calendar, two lines caught my attention: “Looking for a change? Call: 843-867-5309” (not the real number).

I took a leap (of faith, madness, desperation?) and called the number. At the other end of the line was a man from the ManKind Project. We chatted a bit and he invited me to visit one of the three groups in the area. The rest, as they say, is history.

After I moved to Maryland in 2007, I joined the group that now meets at UUCA on the second and fourth Mondays. This work has enabled me to be a much better man, a better father and given me the desire to help other men live their best lives. We are a peer-facilitated group of men who wish every man to lead his best life.

If you are looking for a change, please call James: 443-440-5474 (my real cell phone).
