As many of you know we (UUCA and Annapolis Friends Meeting) have been assisting, through Lutheran Social Services, an Afghan refugee family. Originally, we had hoped that this assistance would lead to self-sufficiency and independence after about a year. However, due to several severe injuries suffered in Afghanistan in the war with the Taliban, the father and breadwinner of the family has incurred the necessity for several possible surgeries and physical therapy. Consequently, he had to leave his surveying job, which required much walking on uneven terrain. His wife is pregnant and is suffering some health issues, as well. She is due sometime around the 15th of September.
All this has led us to having to support them for much longer than the first year. The father is working part-time in a motel office. However, we will need to request additional contributions to help us carry the family for several more months. You can help us out by contributing to UUCA through their website, designating “Refugee Resettlement Assistance Fund.”
Thank you so much for your continued support.
