Annapolis Cafe Scientifique (Science Cafe) @ 49 West Coffeehouse, Winebar & Gallery, usually on the last Thursday of the month, January thru October, 6:00-7:15pm ET. Cafe Scientifique is a place where, for the price of a cup of coffee or a glass of wine, anyone can come to explore the latest ideas in science and technology. Meetings take place in cafes, bars, restaurants and even theatres, but always outside a traditional academic context.
All are welcome, these events are free, and we are happy to add anyone to the email list. Please reserve your seats at 49 West by calling 410-626-9796 and asking them to add you to the list for the date of the Cafe Scientifique event you want to attend. If you are concerned about Covid, wear a mask, or attend via Zoom (see info below). Please forward this to anyone who might be interested. Title of Talk: Left Brain/Right Brain Balance – A New Lens on Our World
Speaker: Dr. Scott Eden, family medicine doctor, recently retired from Luminis Health, Luminis Primary Care at the Sajak Pavilion, Anne Arundel Medical Center
About the Talk: Scott will describe the relevant anatomy of the brain, the experience of Jill Bolte Taylor as described in her TED Talk “My Stroke of Insight”, the science behind the concept of left brain / right brain balance, the implications of these ideas, and actions you can take to achieve brain balance.
About the Speaker: Dr. Scott Eden is 70 years old, born and raised in Richmond, VA. He attended Duke University for college, medical school and the family medicine residency program. He taught for one year in residency while his wife Jan Byrd finished her OB-GYN residency and they moved to Annapolis in 1984. Scott recently retired from his 40th year of practicing family medicine in Annapolis. He convinced the Anne Arundel Medical Center to open Community Clinics in 2011, and he was the medical director of the clinics for 11 years; these clinics are still open. He is interested in wellness and preventive medicine. He was the distance running coach at Annapolis High School for 13 years. And he was a two-time NCAA All American in cross country while at Duke, he won the Marine Corps Marathon in 1978, and he qualified for the Olympic Trials in the marathon in 1980. Scott and Jan have three children and seven grandchildren.
