ACT (Anne Arundel Acting Together) is no longer an IAF affiliate. Join the Countywide Action Team Meeting on Thursday, February 24 at 7 pm via Zoom.
Over the past few months, ACT and several other IAF affiliates decided to challenge the toxic environment reported by some of Metro IAF’s (the regional umbrella) organizers who are People of Color and women. ACT and these affiliates requested more information and accountability from IAF after hearing stories of racism and sexism from the organizers. They also decided to withhold their annual IAF dues until the issues were thoroughly addressed. IAF’s response was to stall, not be accountable, and ultimately, terminate their partnership with six IAF affiliates, including ACT.
While we are disappointed that the “mothership” of IAF has made a decision that appears to be protecting the very critical issues it is supposed to solve, we also are proud of ACT for taking a stand against racism and sexism and understanding the importance of centering the voices of People of Color and women.
ACT is exploring with the other affiliates this new opportunity to build a new regional organization together without the toxicity. Locally, the priorities continue to be launching Turnaround Tuesday, a re-entry program and hiring a new ACT organizer. This work cannot be stopped in Anne Arundel County!
