UUCA has received an opportunity for anyone to go to:
We’re excited to invite you to Movie Night at the Wiley H. Bates Legacy Center!
The Wiley H. Bates Legacy Center honors the legacy of Wiley H. Bates High School. This operated as the only high school for African American students in Annapolis and Anne Arundel County for over 30 years during segregation. As a historical, cultural, and educational hub, the center preserves and shares the school’s contributions to education, economic opportunity, and community service. Through its collections and programs, the center fosters understanding of the African American educational heritage in Maryland and serves as a resource for research, renewal, and inspiration. With this in mind, the center has started a new tradition: Movie Nights!
Movie nights are FREE, open to the public, and occur every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month with one being FOUR WEEKS AWAY, 7PM Thursday, November 7th! The movies are chosen with the goal of spotlighting black stories and amplifying black voices– something the Wiley H. Bates Legacy Center strives to do every day.
The movie featured for the upcoming event will be “Shirley,” a biographical film about how the first-ever Black congresswoman, Shirley Chisholm, launched a trailblazing campaign to become the president of the United States.
