Legacy Gifts to the Unitarian Universalist Church of Annapolis  

Thank you for your interest in arranging a legacy gift to support Unitarian Universalist Church of Annapolis (“UUCA”).   This document is intended to assist you and your legal or financial advisor with information about ways to make legacy gifts to UUCA, an IRS qualified 501(c)(3) charitable organization.

The Legacy Society is available to answer any questions or concerns you may have.   We appreciate hearing about your plans and look forward to welcoming you to the Legacy Society.

Here is how to make your legacy gift:

  • Designate the Unitarian Universalist Church of Annapolis. as a charitable beneficiary of your will, trust, 401(k), IRA, brokerage account, life insurance, annuity contract or the like.
  • Send a UUCA – Letter of Intent to our Financial Manager detailing your intended gifts to UUCA (Letter of Intent attached)/ A member of the Legacy Committee will be in touch with you.

Bequests, Legacy gifts made by will:

Here are some sample will clauses:

  • I give and bequeath   {$ XXX }   to the Unitarian Universalist Church of Annapolis, 333 Dubois Rd, Annapolis, MD 21401   to be used as directed by the Unitarian Universalist Church of Annapolis Board of Trustees.
  • I give, bequeath and devise {YY % of my estate} to the Unitarian Universalist Church of Annapolis, 333 Dubois Rd, Annapolis, MD 21401   to be used as directed by the Unitarian Universalist Church of Annapolis Board of Trustees.
  • I give, bequeath and devise {my home located at ________________, MD} to the Unitarian Universalist Church of Annapolis, 333 Dubois Rd, Annapolis, MD 21401 ,  to be used as directed by the Unitarian Universalist Church of Annapolis Board of Trustees.

Please note that the above will clauses allow your bequest to be used as determined by the UUCA Board of Trustees.   Bequests for a specific purpose or which otherwise restrict the usage of the funds are also welcome.  However, the Board of Trustees generally prefers bequests which permit maximum flexibility.

Legacy gifts of “non-probate assets”:

Legacy gifts of non-probate assets can be made by creating or amending the relevant contract by naming the Unitarian Universalist Church of Annapolis as a beneficiary of your existing trust, 401(k), 403(b).  IRA, Roth IRA   brokerage account, bank account, donor advised fund, annuity, or life insurance policy.

Non-probate assets are simply assets that by virtue of contract law won’t need to be probated after you die.    Examples of non-probate assets include:

  1. Assets you own jointly with your spouse or others with rights of survivorship.
  2. Assets owned by your revocable trust.
  3. Bank accounts or certificates of deposit (CDs) with survivorship designations.
  4. Retirement accounts with named beneficiaries such as 401(k), 403(b). IRA or Roth IRA accounts.
  5. Life Insurance policies.
  6. Annuity contracts.
