Attendees at our June 26 Woodside Gardens After Hour are in for a real treat. This After Hour with Rita Dorsey will be totally devoted to helping our congregation get better acquainted with Annapolis’s Woodside Gardens, a rent-assisted housing community.
Members of UUCA and friends have worked with the residents and staff at Woodside Gardens for decades, including supporting the Food Pantry on a weekly basis. In addition, the congregation has, from time to time, provided support for some of the residents as well as the community itself.
The goals of this After Hour are first, to learn about food scarcity in Annapolis, and second, to work toward a firmer relationship between the Woodside Gardens Community and UUCA.
Current way to contribute:
The low-income housing support community, Woodside Gardens, in Annapolis is conducting a summer camp for children ages 4-12. The camp will run this summer from June 27 through the end of August. There is room for 32 campers and the manager, Rita Dorsey, expects all of the spaces to be filled.
The summer camp has not received any financial support from governmental sources, so Rita is asking for support elsewhere. In addition to any monetary contributions, there are lots of items that are needed to have a successful program– lunches, all kinds of items needed for crafts, story-telling and book reading to the campers, helping to learn about their environment–the animals and plants around them, and a few people to volunteer to assist with the camp, either one day or longer.
Those of you who have worked at this kind of summer camp will no doubt think of items needed to make camp fun for the kids.
