From the Board Regarding

the Capital Campaign

Dear UUCA Members and Friends,

On behalf of the UUCA Board I’d like to bring you an update about our plans for a Capital Campaign. In early 2024, the UUCA Board chartered the Capital Campaign Exploration Committee (CCEC) to answer several questions:

  • What are our dreams and aspirations in the coming years?
  • Do we have the commitment necessary to fuel a Capital Campaign?

During the past several months the CCEC has engaged our congregation to learn of our dreams and visions for our future. Over 150 people enthusiastically shared their ideas. These have been recorded and refined into specific topics and actions and will be available at our next Congregational meeting on December 8.

The Exploration Committee accomplished its goal of exploring our congregation’s dreams for the next Capital Campaign and reported their findings to the Board of Trustees. After a robust discussion, the Board has decided to pause the next step of voting to proceed with a Capital Campaign in the Spring of 2025 for several reasons.

  1. We realized the complexity of putting together a Capital Campaign for the Spring of 2025 was more than we anticipated. We need more time to organize and recruit more member involvement.
  2. The ministerial time commitment for a Capital Campaign is significant.  Rev. Anastassia was the ministerial advisor for this effort until her departure. We’d like to give Rev. John more time to establish his greater responsibilities before taking on a Capital Campaign.
  3. A Capital Campaign also requires intense Board involvement. The Board has several other pressing projects this year.
  4. The necessary roof repair is being completed with a loan from the Endowment.  This repair could not wait until when the funds would be received from a Capital Campaign. We will be adding this loan to the funds we have committed to repay to the Endowment.

For these reasons the UUCA Board has decided to delay the vote for a Capital Campaign until next Spring 2025.

The information the Exploratory Committee gathered is VERY important and relevant.  It will be refined and updated with your input in 2025 for a successful Capital Campaign in the Spring of 2026. Your interest and involvement in this process is very much appreciated!

Thank you to the members of the CCEC for leading us through these first steps.  They are co-chairs Dianne Moreau and Jamie Harms, Dave Burman, Mickey Goldberg, Jeanne Jehl and Linda Rhodes. Volunteer involvement is vital to the health or our Beloved UUCA.

Please contact Jan Bird, Board President at UUCABoard@UUAnnapoiis.org, if you are interested in serving on the Capital Campaign Committee or have any questions.
