Justin Cody

Director of Music

Justin Cody, a native of Sauk City, Wis., came to UUCA in 2024. He is a dad, husband, musician, yogi, and farmer, dedicated to a path of authentic living guided by inner knowing and mindful curiosity. Justin combines music, yogic philosophy, and mindfulness to create transformative experiences to foster introspection and support lasting change.

As a Contemporary American composer and pianist, Justin creates piano soundscapes and neo-classical music with contemplative explorations on themes of interconnectedness, nature, and opening to mystery. At the heart of his playing is a deep rooted connection to oneself as a catalyst for creation, and discovery of what exists in the space between sound and quiet, motion and stillness.

Justin began his musical studies on piano at age seven, and by age 12, he was composing and performing solo concerts. At age 15 he was commissioned to compose a piece for the vocal jazz group Five by Design and the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, and at age 16, he studied composition and piano at the Interlochen Arts Camp. Justin later earned a Bachelor of Music in composition and piano performance with a jazz emphasis from West Virginia University in 2003 where he also won the Young Artists Concerto Competition on piano. He studied composition with John Beall and piano with James Miltenberger. Following College, he enlisted in the Navy and is currently serving as the Unit leader of the Navy’s Premiere popular music ensemble, The Cruisers.

Opportunities to Make Music at UUCA

Pop-Up Choir

Many of us love to sing whether we are at novice level or experienced but have time constraints that keep us from rehearsing each week with thechoir.  If that describes you then consider joining the pop-up choir! We sing only select Sundays throughout the church year.  The music is easy, fun, and accessible for any level of skill. No audition required. Participants must show up at 8am on the Sundays that we sing to rehearse. Choir will sing for both the 9 and 11:15 am services.

Shared Gifts Ensemble

Instrumentalists regularly share their gifts at UUCA. In addition to participating as a soloist, instrumentalists may accompany a choir, participate in the UUCA Philharmonic or annual Stone Soup program.

Worship Band

This is a group of musicians and singers that perform during the morning worship services several times throughout the year. If you would love to play more contemporary or modern styles of music or would like to sing outside of a choral setting, then this may be the group for you. There are scheduled rehearsals 2-3 times before the performance date. Must have some experience on an instrument or singing publicly. Vocalist and Instrumentalist welcome, emphasis on guitars, bass, drums, keys, and popular music vocal stylings.
