Our Afghan

Refugee Family

Many of you have asked for an update on our (and the Annapolis Friends Meeting) refugee family. They have moved into a 3-bedroom apartment and we are currently paying for their rent and utilities. We are helping them to find jobs in this country, which will mimic their previous employment in Afghanistan—his, as a civil engineer, and hers, in daycare and as a lawyer. Their two sons, one starting high school and the other starting middle school, are enrolled in their local schools. Their daughter is 3 years old. Both parents are studying English with the Literacy Council.

Both parents have passed the written driver’s license test and are practicing to pass the driving portion. After they get their licenses, they will be looking for a used car. We have provided a desktop computer, a laptop, and a printer and helped them connect to the internet.

You will have an opportunity to meet the family at a potluck dinner to be held on Friday, September 30, from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm (exact time to TBA later), at the Friends Meeting House, just a stroll down the street from UUCA, so hold that date.
