WE SUPPORT OUR 8th PRINCIPLE AND BLM

Long before recent events, thanks to Rusty Vaughn and Linda Mundy, and others, my church stepped out and proclaimed that we were a Black Lives Matter congregation (in 2015). Our sign was vandalized; it was a long saga of racism. But today we stand in solidarity with our country because we were on the RIGHT side of history.

BBC Summer Book Read

This summer, keep an eye out for our church-wide read of the book Subtle Acts of Exclusion by Tiffany Jana and Michael Baran. We hope this would be a first step in the creation of a new culture within the church, a culture in which it is assumed we all will make mistakes (SAE’s) and by addressing them and holding each other accountable, we will take another step toward living into our 8th Principle. The BBC would host After Hour small groups in break out rooms to discuss the book. We will give you more information here in this newsletter as we find out more. There are several ways you can obtain a copy of this summer’s book read Subtle Acts of Exclusion by Tiffany Jana and Michael Baran:
  • To pick up a copy, please visit the bookstore or order online: https://www.loyaltybookstores.com/
  • You may also purchase online via amazon: click HERE.
  • If you are in need of a member-donated copy (we have a few church members who have offered to donate copies), please contact Pam Ausiello to make arrangements.

The BLM Instructional Library

The Black Lives Matter Instructional Library is a read-aloud library that is free to use. Just select the book you want to hear. Please click HERE to access the presentation.

ACT Statement on the Murder of George Floyd

ANNAPOLIS – As the largest multiracial, interfaith organization in Anne Arundel County, Anne Arundel Connecting Together (ACT) is grieving and we are angry. The murder of George Floyd has sparked outrage across the country and our own hearts. We will not stand idly by as the sacred bodies of black and brown people are desecrated by insidious white supremacy that is woven into the fabric of our great nation.

Ways You Can Get Involved and Take Action

We know this is a difficult time for everyone. Not only are we dealing with the pandemic, but now other concerns are popping up all over the place. In order to relieve some of the frustration felt from not knowing what to do, this section is being added to give you some help and direction. This is not a complete listing and may change frequently. It is a stepping stone to let you know that you can take action and stay educated. Stay safe!
