VOLUNTEER(S) NEEDED FOR MARCH 13!

UUCA is committed to providing dinner to the residents of The Light House – A Homeless Prevention Support Center in Annapolis, once a month (each second Saturday.) The mission of the Light House is to rebuild lives with compassion by providing shelter and services to prevent homelessness and empower people as they transition toward employment, housing, and self-sufficiency. Our church is proud to be part of this effort!

Usually, volunteers sign up to cook for Light House residents on-site, however, due to Covid-19, the “Modified Dinner Program” requires all meals to be prepared offsite, and delivered cold. Alternatively, volunteers may also choose to have dinner delivered from a local restaurant or provide a monetary donation. At no time will volunteers go onsite to serve or prepare the meals for residents. This is strictly an offsite opportunity with the exception of dropping off the prepared meal.

Thank you for considering helping the residents of Light House in this way! Below you’ll see a step by step of how to successfully participate.

1- SIGN UP

2- CHOOSE WHAT TO MAKE/PROVIDE

Browse the Light House Recipe Book by clicking this link: https://docs.google.com/file/d/1gAl0GEMR5ddHoE1P6E1t2J0roqjxfXlh/edit?usp=docslist_api&filetype=msword and decide if you’d like to contribute by making one or more of these recipes, or if you’d like to support the program through food delivery or monetary donation. Please note: recipes from outside of the provided book are not permitted due to dietary restrictions.

All recipes in the recipe book are scaled to feed 25-30 people, which is the current dinner need count. Food delivery or monetary donation should also serve this number of people.

3- CONFIRM YOUR PARTICIPATION/PLAN

One to two weeks before your meal date, you’ll need to confirm your dinner service, the meal and sides you will be providing (from The Light House Recipe Book) along with any additional information the Light House team may need, ie: this meal will be coming as multiple deliveries or dessert will be delivered separately. This information should be sent to Nancy Surakus Kules via FB or email: nancykules@hotmail.com

4- DROP OFF MEAL

Light House asks for volunteers to drop their meal off no later than 5 pm on their sign-up date. Your meal should be cooked but COLD at the point of delivery. Light House residents are in charge of reheating/distributing food at this time.

For the safety of staff and residents, please wear a mask while on Light House property, and follow the contactless donation guidelines listed below.

Items can be delivered between 7 am – 5 pm at our 10 Hudson Street, Annapolis location. All donations of food or supplies should be brought to the back door of The Light House. Please ring the doorbell and the RA at the front desk will speak through the intercom acknowledging the drop-off and will collect the items after you have left.

THANK YOU for your participation in this very important and long-standing relationship between UUCA & Light House!
